Singapore Skilled Worker Visa 2026: Employment Pass, S Pass & How to Qualify

Singapore is one of Asia’s top destinations for skilled professionals, with strong demand in technology, finance, engineering and healthcare. For skilled workers, two work passes matter most: the Employment Pass (EP) and the S Pass. This 2026 guide explains the salary thresholds, the COMPASS scoring system, and how to qualify.

Employment Pass (EP) — for professionals and managers

The EP is Singapore’s main pass for foreign professionals, managers and executives. To qualify in 2026 you generally need:

    • A minimum salary of S$5,600/month (S$6,200 for financial services), rising with age to around S$10,700–S$11,800 by the mid-40s
    • A recognised degree or strong professional qualifications
    • To pass the COMPASS points test (at least 40 points)

The EP has no quota, allows dependants, and is usually processed in about three weeks. Note: from January 2027 the minimum rises to S$6,000 (S$6,600 for finance).

    S Pass — for mid-skilled workers

The S Pass suits technicians and associate professionals who don’t meet EP thresholds. It requires:

    • A minimum salary of S$3,300/month (S$3,800 for financial services), rising with age
    • A relevant diploma or technical certification plus experience

Unlike the EP, the S Pass is subject to a quota (a cap on the share of foreign workers) and a monthly employer levy.

    How COMPASS works

COMPASS scores EP applications across four areas — salary (benchmarked against local professionals), qualifications, company nationality diversity, and support for local employment — plus bonus points for shortage-occupation skills and strategic economic priorities. Specialists in tech, finance and advanced services tend to score well.

    How to apply

    1. Secure a job offer from a Singapore employer — the pass is employer-sponsored, so you can’t apply yourself.
    2. The employer submits the application via MOM’s online portal.
    3. On approval (typically ~3 weeks for the EP), complete formalities and collect your pass.

Skilled roles cluster in the CBD/Marina Bay (finance, law, consulting), one-north (tech, biomedical), Changi Business Park (IT, aerospace) and Jurong Island (process engineering).

    Avoiding scams

    • No agent can guarantee a Singapore pass — MOM decides.
    • Genuine employers never charge you for a job offer or pass.
    • Use MOM’s Self-Assessment Tool to check eligibility before applying.

    Frequently asked questions

Which pass should I aim for?

If you’re a degree-qualified professional meeting the salary threshold, target the EP. For mid-skilled roles, the S Pass (subject to quota) is the route.

    Can my family join me?

EP holders can sponsor dependants. S Pass dependant eligibility is more limited and salary-dependent.

Does the EP lead to permanent residence?

It can — PR is discretionary in Singapore and weighs salary, qualifications, age and economic contribution.
